Crowder, Smythe Pick Up Where They Left Off, Others Join Winners Circle Across Multiple Divisions

Land O’ Lakes, FL-  Marlon Crowder and Kris Smythe topped a 178 boat field at the 2023 championship to cap off the season and accomplished what so many others aimed to do, winning a Blazer 625 Pro Elite powered by a Mercury 250 ProXS. They picked up right where they left off at the first Kissimmee divisional event of the 2024 season, winning the kick off event in the very boat they won at the 2023 Championship. Crowder and Smythe bested a 30 boat field on January 14th by weighing a 21.47 pound, 5 bass limit. They anchored their winning bag with an 8.22 pound TrophyCatch to also earn the Big Bass award for the event. John Stahl and Casey Gonzalez took home a second place finish, weighing a 20.59 pound, 5 bass limit. Third place went to Walker Weeks who set a 17.51 pound, 5 bass limit on the scales. Rounding out the Top 5 were the teams of John Stambaugh & Jim Elsessor in fourth place with 17.25 pounds, followed by Ben Harris & Taylor Harris in fifth place with 16.42 pounds.

John Brazzell and Josh Davis started the 2024 season for the Johns Lake division. Brazzell and Davis bested a 12 boat field on January 14th with an 18.61 pound, 5 bass limit. They anchored their bag with a 6.52 pound kicker to also take home Big Bass honors. Billy Charland and Brian Rodriguez finished the event in second place with a 14.48 pound, 5 bass limit. Tommy Young and JD Runner inked a third place finish with a 14.35 pound bag. Rounding out the Top 5 were the teams of Leo Sarratt & Uby Rosell in fourth place with 13.33 pounds, followed by Scott McDonald & Steven Sanders in fifth place with 13.28 pounds.

Jason Pate and William “Chico” Barnett had a strong 2023 season, winning 3 events and finishing second in points for the Suwannee division. They came into 2024 with guns blazing and topped a 29 boat field to kickstart the season for the Suwannee River division. Pate and Barnett weighed a 13.61 pound, 5 bass limit en route to the win. Walter Starling and Damon Wooley finished the day in second place, weighing an 11.03 pound, 5 bass limit. Starling and Wooley took home Big Bass honors as well with their 5.18 pound kicker. Joey Pate and Logan Pate earned a third place finish with a 10.67 pound, 5 bass limit. Rounding out the Top 5 were the teams of Edward Mathis & Chris Lee in fourth place with 10.50 pounds, followed by Joey Wood & Bryson O’Steen in fifth place with 9.41 pounds.

Joe Yarborough and Dewayne Moore got the better of a 47 boat field in the first Orange Lake divisional event on January 20th. Yarborough and Moore weighed an 18.57 pound, 5 bass limit to take the victory. Anchoring their bag was the event’s Big Bass, an 8.29 pound TrophyCatch. Eric Bozeman and Caleb Hammock finished the day in second place with a 17.90 pound, 5 bass limit. Third place went to the team of Pete Roberson and Rob Roberson with 17.10 pounds. Rounding out the Top 5 were the teams of Matthew Elixson & Hunter Pruitt in fourth place with 15.15 pounds, followed by Tom Morgan & Mike Hafer in fifth place with 12.57 pounds.

The first Istokpoga divisional event was originally scheduled for January 6th, but was postponed due to inclement weather conditions that moved across Highlands County with threats of tornados mid-day. The event was rescheduled for January 20th where Owen Hershberger and Derek Hershberger inked their first win of the season. The father-son duo bested a 13 boat field by bringing a 20.35 pound, 5 bass limit to the scales. Coleman Roberts and Corey Roberts finished the day in second place with a 19.25 pound, 5 bass limit. They anchored their bag with the event’s Big Bass, an 8.00 pound TrophyCatch. Jamie Stephens & Jim Stephens earned a third place finish on the heels of a 17.82 pound, 5 bass limit. Rounding out the Top 5 were the teams of Tom McGinnis & Dave Maurice in fourth place with 15.18 pounds, followed by the team of Chris Jerdan & Matthew Jerdan in fifth place with 14.26 pounds.

Trever Stephens and Andrew Ready started their 2024 season back on top of the standings at the Central Florida division’s first event at Lake Shipp and the South Winter Haven Chain on January 21st. The 2023 Central Florida divisional points champions bested a 28 boat field, weighing a 23.73 pound, 5 bass limit. Jody White and Garrett Rocamora finished in second place, bringing a solid 22.63 pound, 5 bass limit to the scales. White and Rocamora anchored their bag with a 7.69 pound kicker to also earn Big Bass honors for the event. Jay Hagood and Chris Cooper locked in a third place finish with a 16.48 pound, 5 bass limit. Rounding out the Top 5 were the teams of Brad Cobb & Brad McPherson in fourth place with 15.79 pounds, followed by the team of Richard Dunham & Blake Boyer in fifth place with 15.77 pounds.

Jason Brewer and Kyle Brewer kicked off the first Toho divisional event with a win on January 21st. The father-son duo topped an 11 boat field with a 22.71 pound, 5 bass limit. They anchored their winning bag with a 6.55 pound kicker to also earn Big Bass honors. Ken Lucas and Danny Lanier took home a second place finish with an 11.82 pound, 5 bass limit. Jim Folks and Jeremy Smith finished the day in third place with a 10.38 pound, 5 bass bag. Rounding out the Top 5 were the teams of Michael Fletcher & Jason Young in fourth place with 9.02 pounds, followed by Don Eady & Kenny Bivins in fifth place with 8.10 pounds.

About Xtreme Bass Series

The Xtreme Bass Series is the largest grassroots bass tournament trail across Florida, featuring 14 divisions and 126 events throughout the season. Anglers can compete in close-to-home events on local bodies of water, keeping costs down and affording them the opportunity to compete in the end of season championship. Teams who compete in 7 of 9 events in one division, or 8 events in a combination of divisions will qualify for the end of season championship event. The 2024 Championship will be held October 31st-November 2nd at the St. John’s River in Putnam County.
