Craig, Allar kick off 2022 season with win at Istokpoga

The 2022 season of the Xtreme Bass Series is under way for it’s 18th season. The largest grassroots tournament trail in Florida held the season kickoff event at Lake Istokpoga on January 2nd. The first divisional event of the 12-division circuit featured 21 teams over New Year’s weekend, with each team anticipating finding the right bites to start the new year off right. Cody Craig & Brent Allar found those bites to the tune of a 22.84 pound bag, topping the field. Their 5 fish bag was anchored by the day’s Big Bass, an 8.35-pound TrophyCatch. William Bennion & Andy Morris finished in second place with 20.85 pounds. Michael Richardson & Louis Mack took third place with an even 19.00 pounds, followed by Scott Bradley & D.J. Green in fourth with 18.60 pounds. The next event for the Istokpoga division is scheduled for Sunday, February 6th at Lake Istokpoga Park.

Tom Brooks & James Brooks

The Rodman/St. Johns River division kicked off their first divisional event of the season with 22 teams on January 8th out of Palatka. Mike Jackson & Matt Kinney backed up their 2021 Championship victory at Lake Seminole with another win on the St. Johns River. The reigning champions caught a 16.50 pound, 5 bass limit to top the field. Tom Brooks & James Brooks finished in second place with a 16.04 pound, 5 bass bag. They anchored their catch with a 4.75-pound kicker to earn Big Bass honors for the day. Third place went to the team of Gerald Boyd & Jason Gutierrez with 13.04 pounds, followed by Derek Daniels & Michael Johnson in fourth place with 12.82 pounds. The next event for the Rodman/St. Johns division is scheduled for Saturday, February 5th at Kenwood Landing.

19 teams competed in the John’s Lake divisional kick off event on January 9th. Steven Sanders & Scott McDonald earned the victory with a 13.75 pound, 5 bass limit. David Simpson & Adam Eddington took home a second place finish with 12.79 pound, 5 bass limit. Simpson and Eddington anchored their bag with the day’s Big Bass, a 4.74 pound kicker. Greg Barry & Maddox Stinson rounded out the Top 3 with 12.44 pounds. The next event for the Johns Lake division is scheduled for Sunday, February 6th at the Highway 50 Ramp.

Dennis Redd & Chris Lee

The Suwannee River division had 39 teams compete in their first divisional event of the season on January 9th. Dennis Redd & Chris Lee topped the field with a 14.41 pound, 5 bass limit. Joey Wood & Bryson O’steen took home a second place finish with a 12.80 pound bag. Joe Yarborough & Dewayne Moore finished the day in third place with 12.10 pound. Joey Pate & Logan Pate, Reigning Team of the Year, finished in fourth place with 12.05 pounds. Kevin Roberts and Kyle Roberts rounded out the Top 5 with 11.60 pounds. David Courtemanche weighed the biggest bass of the event with a 4.14 pound kicker. The next event for the Suwannee River division is scheduled for Sunday, January 30th out of the Sandy Point boat ramp.

The Xtreme Bass Series is the largest grassroots bass tournament trail across Florida, featuring 12 divisions and 108 events throughout the season. Anglers can compete in close-to-home events on local bodies of water, affording them the opportunity to compete in the end of season championship. Anglers who compete in 7 of 9 events in one division, or 8 events in a combination of divisions will qualify for a chance to fish for a new Blazer 595 Pro Elite powered by a 200 HP Mercury Pro XS package at the championship event. The 2022 Championship will be held November 3-5 at Lake Okeechobee. Teams who compete in 12 or more events during the season will qualify for a chance to win the Michael J.
